Halogen's Management Team

Michael Slaunwhite—Executive Chairman
Mike Slaunwhite co-founded the company in 1996, becoming President and CEO, and later Executive Chairman. Under his team’s leadership, Halogen evolved from a small division within Manta Corporation, a consulting firm, into an independent company and leading provider of web-based employee performance and talent management software.

Prior to joining Halogen, Mike was a key member of the executive team at Corel Corporation, holding the position of Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary. In 1989, he orchestrated Corel’s initial public offering, and in 1992 led the company’s secondary offering with Morgan Stanley and its concurrent NASDAQ listing.

Mike has a Bachelor of Commerce, Honors, with majors in accounting, finance & computer science from Carleton University. Dean's List scholarship.



Paul Loucks—President and CEO
Paul Loucks joined Halogen in January 2000, and has been instrumental in positioning Halogen as a leader in the employee performance and talent management market. Under Paul's leadership, Halogen has achieved consistent revenue growth, quarter over quarter, and has built a roster of nearly 1000 customers worldwide. He is a frequent speaker and author on talent and performance management trends, issues and success strategies. Paul has spoken at industry conferences for leading organizations such as NYSAE and IHRIM, and published articles in numerous HR publications.

Paul has been recognized for his leadership and accomplishments, winning a "Top Forty under 40" award from Ottawa Business Journal in 2001. Prior to joining Halogen, Paul was founder and president of NeoDyne Consulting. The company was named one of Canada's 100 Fastest Growing Companies by Profit Magazine and was recognized as an "Up and Comer" by the Globe and Mail's Report on Business. It was acquired by Compaq Canada in 1997.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Computer Science, with Distinction, from the Technical University of Nova Scotia.



Yvon Martel—Vice President, Healthcare Solutions
Yvon Martel is a founding partner of Halogen (formerly Manta). He has played an instrumental role in growing the company from a five-person consulting organization into the leading provider of employee performance and talent management solutions, with over 100 employees and nearly 1000 customers worldwide. A dynamic speaker, Yvon has shared insight into key performance management challenges and solutions for healthcare organizations at a number of healthcare industry forums across North America, including ASHHRA and regional healthcare association events.

Yvon has over 20 years of experience in business development, sales management, operations, and recruiting; 15 of which have been focused in the technology sector. Prior to joining Halogen, Yvon held senior sales positions at AIM Technical Services and Pollack Technical Services, where he opened and developed very successful IT consulting practices that remain in operation today.



Christian Beauchesne—Vice President, Software Development
Christian Beauchesne joined Manta in October 2000 as Project Manager for the Product Development group and was promoted to Vice President of Software Development in 2002. Christian has over 15 years experience in software development and professional services. He also holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. Christian joined Halogen after working as a Senior Consultant and Project Manager for NeoDyne Consulting and Compaq Canada.

Christian possesses a B.Eng. in Computer Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada.



Marc Brûlé—Vice President, Client Services
Marc Brûlé joined Manta in 1996 as a consultant and was promoted to Director of Consulting Services in 2000. Marc was promoted to Vice President of Consulting Services in 2001, and became responsible for the overall successful delivery of consulting engagements for the National Capital Region. Marc was promoted to Vice President of Client Services for Halogen Software in 2004. Marc has over 14 years of experience in software development and professional services.
 
Marc possesses a BSc in Information Management Systems from the University of Ottawa.



Donna Ronayne—Vice President, Marketing & Business Development
With more than 15 years holding senior marketing, sales and business development positions in both start-up and established high-tech companies, Donna Ronayne brings extensive experience and a results-oriented approach. Prior to joining Halogen, she was Vice President of Business Development at BitFlash, where she defined market strategy and was instrumental in securing strategic partnership agreements with Tier 1 companies worldwide, including Sharp, Vodafone, Texas Instruments, and IBM. Her contributions at QNX led to successful repositioning of the company as an industry leader.

Donna holds a Bachelor of Commerce, High Honors, from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.



Don Sylvester—Vice President, Sales
With more than 20 years of experience in the technology field, Don Sylvester brings proven success in building and maintaining high-speed sales growth. Prior to joining the Halogen team in 2006, Don held executive positions leading sales teams at Dell, Corel, Nortel and Performance Technologies. Don has consistently driven revenue using both direct and channel models.

Don holds a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Windsor.

Peter Low, CA—Chief Financial Officer
Peter joined Halogen in September 2006 bringing a wealth of financial and business experience after spending the past 16 years in the accounting and investment professions. Just prior to joining Halogen, Peter was a Managing Partner at Axis Capital Corporation, investing in early stage technology companies. He was highly involved in many of the portfolio company activities such as raising capital, developing corporate strategy, designing financial and operational plans, serving as a Director, and merger and acquisition activities selling two portfolio companies to IBM and Microsoft. Peter was recognized for his leadership and contributions in 2002 as a winner of the Ottawa Business Journal's "Top Forty under 40". Prior to Axis, Peter was a Senior Tax Manager at Deloitte LLP servicing their high technology clients.

Peter is a Director of the Canadian Advanced Technology Association (CATA), the Canada Revenue Agency SR&ED Partnership Committee, as well as Athletics Canada. He is also an advisor to Engage!, a not-for-profit organization designed to promote and inspire the charitable giving back to Ottawa's community.

Peter is a Chartered Accountant and a graduate from Mount Allison University.
