When it comes to purchasing Halogen software, we offer our customers two options:

• Perpetual License
• Subscription License (Software as a Service)

 

Not all vendors offer you a choice!

We believe it’s critical that you understand what your organization is buying. The licensing option that's right for you will depend on your business, security, IT and deployment needs. When making the decision, it's important to consider both your immediate needs, and your longer term requirements. The type of license you purchase will determine your rights and restrictions with respect to software deployment and use.

 

Perpetual License

Our perpetual license gives you the right to use the software perpetually for a one-time license fee. An optional maintenance fee entitles you to free product upgrades and helpline/technical support. You can choose to install the software in your own hosting environment (On-Premise), or have us host it for you (On-Demand).

A perpetual license also gives you the freedom to change your deployment option between on-premise and on-demand. If you think your deployment requirements might change over time, a perpetual license may be a better solution for you.

 

Subscription License – aka Software as a Service (SaaS)

Our subscription license gives you the right to use the application for a specified period of time. It gives you access to the service via the Internet, without the need to deploy and maintain an on-premise IT infrastructure. As part of the license fee, we host the application in our world-class On-Demand hosting environment, and are responsible for all application maintenance.

This model is also known as Software as a Service since the vendor supplies both the software and the hosting environment as a service to the customer. Subscription licenses are not available with on-premise deployments.

 

Licensing Options at a Glance

Perpetual License	On-Premise installation	For a 'one-time' license fee customers can use software perpetually at no additional cost. The software can be deployed on the clients network (on-premise). An optional maintenance fee also entitles customers to free product upgrades and helpline/technical support. Since the customer 'owns' the software they may opt to move it to the Halogen hosted environment if the need arises.
Perpetual License	On-Demand hosted by Halogen	For a 'one-time' license fee customers can use the software perpetually. An additional annual or monthly hosting fee is required to have Halogen host (install and support) the software in their secure server environment. An optional maintenance fee also entitles customers to free product upgrades (performed by Halogen) and helpline/technical support. Since the customer "owns" the software they may move their installation to any hosting environment, including in-house.
Subscription Licensing (SaaS*)	On-Demand hosted by Halogen	An annual 'rental' fee gives customers the right to use the software. Annual fees cover the license rental, maintenance and product upgrades, hosting service fees and helpline/technical support. Subscriptions are normally for 3 year terms.
